Engineers at Trinity College Dublin are to lead a new EU project to develop “greener” landing gear.

The €1.4m ($1.8m) “ARTIC” project, which is being funded through the EU’s Clean Sky programme, aims to reduce noise pollution by redesigning aircraft landing gear.

The college will be collaborating with Italian OEM Alenia Aermacchi on the project, which will feed into the EU’s Green Regional Aircraft programme.

Trinity College and Alenia Aermacchi are currently working together on another Clean Sky project testing new noise abatement technologies to offset noise pollution caused by landing gear.
