Seattle-Tacoma to run GSE on electric power
All ground support equipment (GSE) at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport are to be converted from running on fossil fuels to electric power. The Port of Seattle, along with Alaska Airlines, Western Washington Clean Cities and US Representative Adam Smith unveiled a new project providing nearly 600 electric charging stations throughout the airport. Alaska Airlines has purchased 204 electric vehicles in operation on the ground at its Seattle hub. Converting the GSE from fossil fuel to electric is projected to save $2.8m in airline fuel costs and 10,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions every year – the equivalent of taking 1,900 cars off the road.
