Airbus Develops 'SmartBaggage' Solution

Airbus has demonstrated its new ‘SmartBaggage’ solution, ‘Bag2Go’, at its headquarters in Toulouse, France, during one of its annual Innovation Days. The product, which was presented to a select audience by Yann Barbaux, chief innovation officer, has been developed in collaboration with T-Systems International and luggage manufacturer Rimowa. 'Bag2Go' promises real-time baggage tagging and tracing, plus a weight indication unit, but has not yet been officially launched. However, with a prototype created in May 2013 and studies into the business model and partnerships currently being undertaken, passengers may soon be able to engage with their luggage from check-in to baggage collection.
