China Eastern Airlines has become the first airline in the country to run a full digital operation after receiving authorisation from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).

The Shanghai-based carrier teamed with Boeing subsidiary Jeppesen for the transition to digital, using its FliteDeck Pro as part of its electronic flight solution, a move which was vital according to China Eastern Airlines CEO Hou Jianiun.

“Using Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro for charting and navigation with our international operations and our domestic NAIP charting data for flights within China provides the foundation for gaining this landmark clearance from the Civil Aviation Administration of China,” he said.

In addition to FliteDeck Pro, China Eastern said it also uses digital Jeppesen services to increase operational efficiency, including OpsData for on-demand aircraft operational analysis, flight planning services.
