Commercial operators will soon be able to offer passengers faster wi-fi via Honeywell’s SwiftBroadband service.

The OEM says it has doubled the speed of its in-flight wi-fi provision, achieving download speeds of up to 2.75MB per second.

Honeywell has worked with satellite company Inmarsat and software firm Eclipse on its “high data rate” software upgrade to its SwiftBroadband offering.

The firms have successfully completed flight and lab testing for update and say it can be installed through a simple on-aircraft system upgrade.
