ICAO Warns Saudis To Upgrade Systems

ICAO has asked Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) to upgrade its aviation systems, according to news sources in the region.

ICAO has allegedly called for the upgrading of GACA's online data interchange and automatic identification and data capture systems, which reduce problems with crowded airspace.

This follows ICAO’s request in June for GACA to install mechanisms that reduce the distance between air paths.

On average there are 20 near mid-air crashes in Saudi air space each year, a source at GACA told Saudi newspaper Makkah Daily.
