AAR, Air New Zealand Expand Component Partnership

Volume of contracted component repairs with the airline is set to grow.

AAR has signed a new 10-year agreement with Air New Zealand which it said will designate the flag carrier’s component repair division as its MRO of choice in the Asia-Pacific region.

In an AAR release issued on Nov. 20, the Illinois-headquartered company said the new agreement will see a sizeable increase in the volume of contracted component repairs with Air New Zealand.

The two parties first signed a long-term component agreement one year ago to provide cost-per-flight-hour rotable inventory support covering approximately 740 parts and 15 of the airline’s Boeing 777 aircraft.

The contract saw Air New Zealand become AAR’s exclusive component repair provider for selected parts in Asia-Pacific as well as a preferred supplier for selected parts worldwide.

The U.S. component specialist said partnerships with the likes of Air New Zeland are driven by growing worldwide demand for its services. It also stated that existing relationship with other customers in its global network will benefit the airline’s maintenance and engineering division.

“With strong OEM relationships and vast airline operational experience, Air New Zealand’s workshops complement AAR’s workshops in Amsterdam and New York,” said Deepak Sharma, president, AAR Integrated Solutions – Commercial. “AAR’s customers from all corners of the globe are now within easy reach of these strategically positioned repair bases.”

Air New Zealand chief operations officer Bruce Parton meanwhile said the AAR cooperation aligns with its own goal to further grow its component repair business, which services a split of the in-house fleet and third-party airline customers.
