Majorca-based Air Europa has ordered 14 787-9 aircraft, valued at $3.6bn at list prices, the largest ever Boeing widebody order from a Spanish carrier.
The order was included in Boeing’s order log for December 2014, having previously been listed as coming from an unidentified customer.
The carrier has opted for Trent 1000 engines to power the new aircraft and signed a TotalCare MRO support package with Rolls-Royce. In total the contract is worth $1.1bn.
Air Europa now has a total of 22 787-8s and 787-9s on order as it transitions to an all-Boeing long-haul fleet.
The airline said the first 787s will arrive in 2016, a move it said will lead to a 50 per cent growth in the number of flights it operates and destinations it serves.
