American Deploys EFB Across Fleet

American Airlines has completed the roll-out of its Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) programme with the discontinuation of paper revisions of terminal charts. In April the airline completed testing on its 757 and 767 aircraft and secured FAA approval to use the Apple iPad on all of its current fleet types. "Our EFB programme has a significant positive environmental and cost-savings impact… and removing the kitbag from all of our planes saves a minimum of 400,000 gallons and $1.2 million of fuel annually based on current fuel prices,” said David Campbell, American's VP, safety and operations performance.
