American, US Begin Codeshare Flights

American Airlines and US Airways have announced details of the first phase of a codeshare. “Implementing this codeshare so early in the integration process allows us to begin realising significant revenue synergies, which are estimated to exceed $1bn annually by 2015," said American Airlines president Scott Kirby. Through the codeshare, each airline will sell tickets operated by the other carrier using its own code and flight number, and customers will be able to combine select flights operated by each airline on a single itinerary. The two airlines are expected to extend the codeshare to include all flights within the combined network in the coming weeks.
