Edinburgh Airport was closed yesterday after traces of explosives were detected on a passenger’s hands and luggage. Around 400 passengers were excavated to a nearby car park, hotel and car hire office. In addition, 600 passengers on five aircraft were left on the tarmac for several hours. The building was shut down and all access roads were closed. The airport cancelled 28 flights, including services to Brussels, Birmingham, London and Stornoway. The traces of explosives were found during a routine security scan and three subsequent swab tests. Bomb disposal robots were sent in, but the package was found to be harmless.
