EU Lifts Restrictions On Air Astana

The European Union (EU) has lifted restrictions on Air Astana, meaning it can now increase frequencies on existing European routes. The EU lifted frequency restrictions in place since July 2009, saying that Astana has since improved its safety systems and procedures, which are now in line with international standards. The European Commission said in a press release: “All other Kazakh airlines remain banned from Europe until the Kazakh authorities have implemented a sustainable system to effectively oversee the safety of these carriers”. Air Astana’s president, Peter Foster, said he was “delighted” with the EU’s decisions and that he was considering more flights to Europe, particularly Paris and Prague.
