FAA Upgrades Serbia’s Safety Status

The US authorities have confirmed that Serbia now meets ICAO category 1 safety standard, allowing airlines to operate between the two countries. For the past eight years the FAA has ranked Serbia as holding a category 2 rating, which means the country either lacks the laws or regulations necessary to oversee air carriers in accordance with minimum international safety standards or that its civil aviation authority lacks the necessary skills or competency. The new category rating comes after Serbia’s Civil Aviation Directorate took corrective action following an FAA visit last month (June 2014). Serbia is now clear to establish services to the US and to carry US codes.
