Final Formality For AA-US Air Merger

American Airlines and US Airways have cleared the final hurdle in the way of their merger, following a federal judge’s approval of their settlement with the US Department of Justice. In August last year the DoJ filed to block the $11bn merger, but lifted its objections after the carriers agreed to sell slots at various large US airports. All that remained was for a US district judge to clear the settlement, which Colleen Kollar-Kotelly of Washington duly did yesterday (April 28).
