Finnair Faces Union Strife Over Cuts

Negotiations between the Finnish Flight Attendants’ Association (SLSY) and Finnair have broken down, although the Finnish Aviation Union (IAU) and trade union PRO remain engaged in settlement talks for technical personnel. Finnair aims to cut €30m in wages as part of a €200m cost saving programme and had offered SLSY, IAU and PRO members protection from layoffs for two years if the desired savings were achieved. Protection against offshoring was also offered to SLSY members for two years. Finnair will now seek savings in cabin crew costs, and will examine alternative operating models.
