Finnair has confirmed it plans to outsource cabin crew on 20 short-haul routes over the next two years. The airline hopes to outsource up to three routes by the end of 2014. A subsidiary is to procure cabin crew services for the carrier, with staff sourced from Asia and Europe. The decision to outsource the routes follows negotiations with the Finnish Cabin Crew Union that saw the airline reject the union’s offer to implement €11.7m ($15.9m) in temporary cost saving measures. Finnair pressed for €12m ($16.4m) in immediate cost reductions and €6m ($8.2m) over a longer period.
