Garuda Indonesia will introduce a new sub-brand, Explore, using ATR72-600 aircraft to serve flights to remote areas. The carrier says the move is part of its efforts to develop and strengthen its flight network, especially in the domestic sector. The inaugural flight on the 70-seater aircraft will take place on December 3 and services will operate from Denpasar to Labuan Bajo, Ende, and Bima, and from Makassar and Ambon to destinations in those regions. Garuda will receive 35 ATR72-600s under firm orders for 25 aircraft and options for 10 more. The aircraft will be delivered in stages up to 2017. President and CEO Emirsyah Satar says the ATR72-600 has the ability to serve flights to new destinations in eastern Indonesia, which has limited runway capacity.
