Hong Kong Vetoes Jetstar LCC Bid

Hong Kong’s Air Transport Licensing Authority has rejected an application for a low-cost carrier (LCC) joint venture involving Qantas and China Eastern Airlines, after deciding it wouldn’t be considered a local carrier.

The regulator announced last Thursday (June 25) that Jetstar Hong Kong “cannot make its decisions independently from that of the two foreign shareholders.”

Jetstar Hong Kong submitted its original application in 2013 but was met with opposition from its competitors, including Cathay Pacific, Dragonair and Hong Kong Airlines.
