Qantas, JAL Up Stakes In Jetstar Japan

Qantas and Japan Airlines (JAL) have upped their respective stakes in Jetstar Japan with a combined equity injection of $113.6m. The investment, in the form of non-voting shares, will increase Qantas and Japan Airlines’ economic interest from 41.7 per cent to 45.7 per cent each. This means that the stakes of Mitsubishi Corporation and Century Tokyo Leasing will drop from 8.3 per cent to 4.3 per cent each. The investing airlines said the equity injection would support Jetstar Japan’s future fleet and infrastructure growth, “enabling the carrier to capitalise on the significant potential of the low cost carrier market in the world’s third largest economy”.
