Australian carrier Qantas has signed a 20-year lease for a new 57,000m2 maintenance facility at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
The new hangar will include two parking pads capable of taking A380 aircraft, plus office space and ground support equipment facilities.
Qantas expects to employee 150 engineers and 50 other employees at the site.
The Australian carrier will also lease one additional A380-capable hangar adjacent to its new maintenance hangar.
Its existing maintenance hangar at LAX is scheduled for demolition in January 2016 to make way for a dual A380 taxi lane as part of improvements to the airport.
Qantas operates a fleet of 12 A380-800 aircraft on routes from Sydney and Melbourne to Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Dubai and London, and has a further eight A380s on order.
