Middle East carrier Qatar Airways has signed an order for four 777 Freighters, in a deal valued at $1.24bn at current list prices.
The airline also has the right to extend the order to include a further four of the same aircraft, bringing the order’s total potential value to $2.46bn.
Qatar announced its intent to buy the freighters at the Farnborough Airshow last year.
The airline currently operates a fleet of 37 777-300ERs and 777-200LRs in addition to seven 777 Freighters.
“We aim to make Qatar Airways one of the world’s major air cargo players,” CEO of the airline, Akbar Al Baker, commented.
