Rebels Hand Over MH17’s Black Boxes

Pro-Russian separatists in Eastern Ukraine have this morning (July 22) given two flight-data recorders from MH17 to Malaysian experts investigating the crash.

The handover in Donetsk came after the UN Security Council passed a resolution demanding international access to the crash site.

The rebel forces in Ukraine have faced international condemnation for the way the crash scene has been managed and for blocking access to the site.

The black boxes should be able to provide the exact location and altitude of the 777 when the incident occurred and recordings of what was happening in the cockpit of the aircraft.

ICAO accident investigation experts arrived in the county over the weekend and will be providing the Ukrainian authorities guidance on determining the cause of the crash.
