Republic Ditches Turboprops For E175 Jets

Republic Airways, the US regional airline group, is to add 50 new E175 aircraft to its fleet from mid-2015 to 2017. Accordingly, the company’s capacity purchase agreement with United Airlines has been amended to include the new 76-seat aircraft, and an existing deal covering 38 E175s is to be extended until 2022. The new E175s will also see Republic wind down its Q400 operations and sublease 24 of the 31 turboprops it operates for United to British regional airline Flybe. In return, Republic will assume an order for 20 E175s that Flybe previously had with Embraer; the 20 E175s form part of the 50-aircraft order. Flybe will receive the Q400s from early 2015 through to 2016. Republic’s remaining Q400 aircraft will be sold, leased or returned to their lessor after removal from United service.
