Russia Blocks Ukraine’s Airlines

Russia has banned Ukraine’s airlines from passing through its airspace, blocking routes to Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia and Turkey. Numerous Ukrainian airlines will be affected by the blockade, including YanAir, Wizz Air Ukraine, Dniproavia and Ukraine International Airlines (UIA). UIA said the decision has forced it to re-route flights, which will cost an extra 15 to 20 per cent and cause flight delays. On Friday (August 15), Ukraine’s prime minister, Arseniy Yatsenyuk announced that Ukraine plans to place sanctions against 172 Russian citizens and 65 Russian companies.
