Thai Airways Cancels Flights Due To Protests

Thai Airways cancelled six flights yesterday (January 16) due to anti-government protests in Bangkok. It was the second day of protests by demonstrators who wish to overturn the prime minister, Yingluck Shinawatra, and install a 'people's council'. Protesters have surrounded government buildings, the Customs Department and key roads leading to Suvarnabhumi airport in Bangkok. The on-going dispute has also significantly reduced passenger traffic between Thailand and Myanmar this season. Indeed, Myanmar Airways is reported to have lost 40 per cent of its passengers on those routes.
