United Airlines has agreed a preliminary deal with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) union covering 9,000 technical and related employees.
Announced on Friday (August 12), both parties must now finalize contract details to ratify the agreement which will be left to the mechanics to decide whether or not to accept.
A formal contract would bring the technical operations of United and Continental together, the rival US airline it acquired in 2010.
Oscar Munoz, president and CEO of United, said: "Upon ratification, this will be the first time in almost a decade that all United work groups will have labor contracts in place."
