Airbus and Zodiac Developing Lower-Deck Passenger Sleeping Berths

Airline passengers on Airbus A330s could be sleeping below deck in a new lie-flat beds.

Airbus and Zodiac Aerospace are partnering on the development of lower-deck sleeping compartments for passengers. These sleeping berths will be designed to fit inside cargo compartments so they can be interchanged with regular cargo containers during a typical aircraft turnaround.

By 2020, the companies plan to offer a catalog of certified sleeping compartment options for Airbus A330s that can be retrofitted or line fitted. Airbus and Zodiac are evaluating whether to offer sleeping berths packages for the A350XWB, as well.
