TS&S To Use Honeywell Voice Recognition System for MRO

Engine mechanics will be able to log diagnosis observations just by speaking.

As part of its efforts to implement advanced technologies into its operation, Turbine Services and Solutions (TS&S) plans to start using a voice-control system for MRO projects. TS&S signed a contract with Honeywell to use its maintenance and inspection voice system on Jan. 23 at Aviation Week Networks’ MRO Middle East Exhibition, making it the first aerospace customer in the region to use Vocollect.

Vocollect allows mechanics to speak their maintenance log observations in real time into the system, which reduces time and paper-based documentation. TS&S will integrate the voice system with its materials requirements planning system.

Honeywell says Vocollect can improve productivity by 35% and operational errors by 25%.

Mansoor Janahi told Aviation Week that TS&S is on a journey to digitize more of its operation and find ways new technologies, such as Vocollect, that can differentiate the company’s service offerings.

Last year at the Dubai Airshow, Mubadala, which owns TS&S, signed a memorandum of understanding with IBM to look into data analytics and predictive maintenance opportunities. Janahi says the companies are discussing the analytics possibilities.
