Passenger traffic at airports increased by 1.8 per cent in April 2013, according to Airports Council International (ACI). International traffic was up 2.4 per cent and domestic up 1.3 per cent compared with April 2012; this included a 10.2 per cent rise in the Middle East but a 0.4 per cent fall in Europe. However, approximately 50 per cent of the world's top 20 air freight hubs registered declines in air freight during April. Worldwide freight traffic increased by one per cent during the month; ACI noted that Hong Kong (HKG) and Memphis (MEM), two of the world's busiest freight airports, recorded “relatively strong gains” of 4.5 per cent and 4.3 per cent respectively.
