Aeroflot Clarifies Rostec Agreement

Aeroflot has denied reports that it might pay double the list price to lease 50 737NG aircraft. The carrier explained that the $7.47bn operating lease deal it has struck with Rostec covers the leasing contract, the cost of financing and other risks, a six-year prolongation option and a $1.9bn technical maintenance reserve. Aeroflot will not be charged the insurance reserves for technical maintenance and will not necessarily require a lease extension of six years or more. “This limits the final cost of the 12 year lease contract for 50 Boeing-737 aircraft to $3.5b which is $700m less than the estimated cost announced three years ago,” the airline explained in a statement.
