MRO provider Certified Aviation Services, LLC (CAS) has just purchased a second portable aircraft hangar, which will allow the company’s rapid response AOG “Go Team” to work on multiple ongoing projects at the same time. The two 32,800 sq. ft. portable hangars combined with CAS’ 8,100 sq. ft. wing cover give the MRO provider a total of 73,700 sq. ft. of portable structure.
According to CAS, the purchase of the second portable hangar will support customers in the most effective way by allowing the company to have structures strategically placed for rapid deployment. “This will give CAS the ability to pass along savings to our customers and provide a custom fit solution for them, bringing additional opportunities in 2018,” says Michael Turpin, managing director of CAS’ Recovery, Repair and Modifications division.
The portable hangars, which can be shipped to a repair site via cargo air freight or sea, allow CAS to repair a customer’s aircraft remotely anywhere in the world. CAS says it is in the only MRO with these AOG capabilities. The portable hangars can be assembled in approximately 14-19 days, depending on the size of the aircraft. Combined, the portable hangars can hold two 757s or smaller, nose to tail.
Currently, CAS is keeping the portable hangars at its facilities in Ontario, California. The company says it is looking into storing one of the structures in Singapore to reduce cost and time for shipping, which will benefit customers.
