Indonesia's flag carrier, Garuda Indonesia, has signed a lease agreement with Danish lessor Nordic Aviation Capital (NAC), for 35 new ATR72-600s. The deal includes a firm order for 25 aircraft and options for a further 10. The deal, with options, is valued at over $840m. The aircraft, which will be delivered from November, will be used to serve short-haul point-to-point and hub-and-spoke flights, including those from Denpasar, Makassar, and Ambon to Labuan Bajo, Tambolaka, and Ende in East Nusa Tenggara. Garuda will use the new turboprops on routes under 400nm in all regions of Indonesia. "This type of aircraft is the best in its class to serve short distance routes between the islands and cities in Indonesia that have a limited runway capacity," said Garuda's CEO, Emirsyah Satar. Garuda will operate the ATR72-600 with a single-class configuration with capacity for 70 passengers.
