Lufthansa Technik just signed a contract with Dubai South to double its facilities here to enable more parts storage and component capabilities, says Ziad Al Hazmi, CEO of the Middle East operation. “It’s a big step, especially for the region,” he adds.
Lufthansa Technik Middle East moved to Dubai South’s Aviation District in May 2017—specifically the Aerospace Supply Chain section of the 7.2 square kilometer district—from Dubai Airport, where it started operations on Feb. 1, 2016.
The move has been positive for the MRO that offers component supply, structural and composite repairs, aircraft-on-the-ground services and engine washes.
Over the next six months, it will build the facility extension.
Lufthansa Technik Middle East focuses on flight controls, reversers inlet cowls and fan cowls—but it recently received the Part 145 C6 interior equipment rating so it can repair things such as seat panels.
About four or five months ago, the MRO also added mobile teams who can assess damage remotely and fix some items on-wing.
Typically Lufthansa Technik Middle East customers are within about a four-hour flight from Dubai.
