Lufthansa Technik Puerto Rico has resumed operating on the island three weeks after Hurricane Maria by redelivering its 100th heavy maintenance check for facility launch customer Spirit Airlines.
The aircraft, one of Spirit’s Airbus A319s, was redelivered this week.
Pat Foley, CEO of Lufthansa Technik Puerto Rico, said all of its employees are safe and the infrastructure of the hangar located in Aguadilla wasn’t heavily damaged by the hurricane.
He said the major issues involved hindrances towards electricity, water supply, IT and general communications.
Once the hurricane had left the island and Puerto Rico’s airports re-opened, Lufthansa Technik said it established a team at its Hamburg headquarters to oversee operations and sent a support team to the island comprised of IT, technical and logistics specialists helping with matters of urgency such as setting up satellite communications systems.
Lufthansa Technik Puerto Rico commenced operating in July 2015. It said that to date, it has logged 128 maintenance events.
