Precision, ATSG Form A321-200 PTF Joint Venture

Company will operate as 321 Precision Conversions.

Precision Aircraft Solutions and Air Transport Services Group (ATSG), through its Cargo Aircraft Management subsidiary, are to form a new joint venture company which will conduct passenger-to-freighter (PTF) conversions on Airbus A321-200 aircraft.

The business will operate as 321 Precision Conversions and is targeting approval of a supplemental type certificate (STC) by 2019.

Precision started feasibility analysis for the Airbus narrowbody type in 2011, while full-scale engineering for STC development in Q3 2016.

In a statement released Monday (Aug. 7), Precision and ATSG said the A321 modifications will deliver similar cube space to Boeing 757 freighters with low operating costs comparable to smaller Boeing 737 freighter jets.

Both parties, which have worked together on 757 PTF conversions for more than 10 years, plan to release more information about the A321 services in early October 2017.
