Private equity firm Liberty Hall Capital Partners said Dec. 3 it bought Aircraft Performance Group (APG), which offers proprietary flight operations software targeted at the aerospace aftermarket.
Sellers and terms of the deal were not provided. Liberty Hall focuses on buying and consolidating small aerospace and defense companies, typically in manufacturing. But aftermarket services, and increasingly predictive analytics, continue to garner the attention of the traditional manufacturing sector as growth markets.
APG provides what it calls aircraft performance calculation software, entailing runway analysis and weight and balance services. In October it rolled out iPreFlight Genesis, an upgrade to its mobile app, iPreFlight, which integrates international flight planning. Founded in 1999, Castle Rock, Colorado-based APG counts more than 1,800 customers representing more than 11,000 individual aircraft worldwide. All of its revenue is aftermarket-based.
“We intend to provide APG the resources to continue its history of innovation and disruption in its market segment and better serve its customers by accelerating the introduction of these exciting technologies and products,” said Rowan Taylor, Liberty Hall’s founding and managing partner.
The existing APG management team led by CEO Michael Caflisch will stay in their roles following the acquisition, Liberty said.
APG represents Liberty Hall’s fifth platform acquisition and first software-as-a-service investment. In November 2013, the private equity firm formed Tulsa, Oklahoma-based Accurus Aerospace, a Tier II supplier of metallic parts, kits and assemblies and processing services. In February 2016, Liberty Hall acquired Renton, Washington-based AIM Aerospace, a designer and producer of advanced composite structures, systems, engine components and thermoplastic technology. In March 2016, the firm bought UK-based Bromford Industries, a supplier of complex, close-tolerance engine components, fabrications and assemblies and landing gear components. And in June 2017, Liberty Hall acquired nearby Dunlop Aircraft Tyres, an independent global designer, manufacturer and retreader of aircraft tires.
