Rolls-Royce, UTC Abandon JV Plans

In October 2011 Rolls-Royce and Pratt & Whitney (P&W), a unit of UTC, announced plans to form a joint venture (JV) to develop engines for future mid-sized airbus models. However, yesterday (September 19) the two companies confirmed that the plans have been abandoned. “Following further discussion and because of the current regulatory environment, the parties have agreed not to proceed with the partnership,” said P&W.  The companies originally planned to hold an equal share in the venture, which was intended to study geared turbofan and open rotor technology along with other types of engine configurations.
