Satair has added greater capacity to its U.K. operation near London Heathrow Airport in the form of a new aircraft battery services facility which gives it 11 times more cubic workshop and warehousing capacity.
The facility, located on the North Feltham Trading Estate in West London, became operational in March and will service around 180 customers, ranging from airlines to MROs along with helicopter operators, business jets and private aircraft owners.
Jon Ravenhall, managing director of Satair UK, says the company had outgrown its previous facility of almost 30 years located a few miles from its new home.
In moving to the new site, Ravenhall says it used the opportunity to add new capabilities including electrically-based product repairs, particularly for Airbus proprietary parts which will become operational in September 2018.
“We’ve started to bring some of the products in-house which we’d liked to have done before but didn’t have the capacity for despite holding the capability,” he says. According to Ravenhall, these include interconnecting struts, aircraft crew seating and control panels.
Ravenhall says Satair is also looking at a list of around 40 potential products it can repair at the facility by 2019. “There are some more complicated parts that will need an amount of training from the team,” he says.
