Abu Dhabi-based engine repair specialist Turbine Services and Solutions (TS&S) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with avionics giant Honeywell to collaborate on MRO services for Honeywell manufactured auxillary power units (APUs) and T-55 turboshaft engine localization repairs.
The MoU was announced Sunday (Mar. 3) by both parties. The APU covered by the contract is the Honeywell 131-9, part of the family found on Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 aircraft.
Honeywell’s T-55 turboshaft engine powers Boeing’s CH-47 Chinook transport helicopter – the sole option for the helicopter globally. Work will be carried out at TS&S’s facility in Abu Dhabi, located near the UAE capital’s airport.
Mansoor Janahi, CEO at TS&S, said at a signing attended by TS&S and Honeywell executives that the MoU represents an important move for TS&S both commercially and operationally. “In collaboration with Honeywell, we will widen the spectrum of our service offering; effectively expanding our customer base to new industry segments,” he said.
“Through our collaboration with Honeywell we aim to localize the MRO capability for these APUs and engines to support the regional market and beyond,” Janahi added.
The new capabilities add to TS&S’s existing commercial offerings in Abu Dhabi. Engines covered include the GEnx, PT6, Rolls-Royce Trent 700 and the IAE V2500-A5.
