United Flies With New Split Scimitar Winglets

Yesterday (February 19) a United Airlines 737-800 aircraft retrofitted with new Split Scimitar Winglets took-off, marking the first commercial flight worldwide to operate with the advanced winglet technology manufactured by Aviation Partners Boeing, according to the airline. The new winglet design, which will reduce fuel burn by two per cent per aircraft, is a retrofit of the Blended Winglet. "We are proud to be the first airline in the world to fly with this unrivalled winglet technology that cuts our fuel consumption while simultaneously reducing carbon emissions," said Ron Baur, United's vice president of fleet.
