US Senate Green Lights Reform Of Certification

The US Senate Appropriations Committee has passed the 2015 transport, housing and urban development funding bill, which will provide support for improving new aircraft technologies and promote unleaded aviation fuel for piston-driven aircraft. The FAA will now be required to implement section 312 from the FAA Modernization and Reform Act 2012, which seeks to reform aircraft certification. The FAA will also have to inform Congress on efforts to develop workforce and training programmes for FAA certification inspectors, engineers and specialists. An additional $6m was also approved to support research into an unleaded alternative to 100-octane low-lead fuel currently used for piston-driven aircraft.
