CFM LEAPs To Ground Test Phase

CFM has begun testing its first full LEAP engine by launching a ground and flight test certification programme that will encompass 60 engine builds over the next three years. The overall certification programme, which consists of all three LEAP engine variants, includes 28 ground and CFM flight test engines, along with a total of 32 flight test engines for Airbus, Boeing, and COMAC. The next three years will see these engines accumulate approximately 40,000 hours (18,000 engine cycles) leading up to entry into service. The programme is set for completion in 2015 with its first entry into service on the A320 planned for 2016.
