EASA Approves ATR72 Power Upgrade

EASA has certified the use of new PW127N engines on ATR 72-600 turboprop aircraft. Pratt & Whitney Canada’s PW127N is 4.5 per cent more powerful than the previous PW127M model, allowing better performance in hot and high operating conditions. The PW127N will be debut with Colombia-based Avianca’s ATR fleet, onto which the engine will roll out through 2014 and 2015. Field conversions from the PW127M to the PW127N will be feasible with minor hardware modifications. The engine had already obtained a certification from Transport Canada, the Canadian airworthiness authority.
