Indonesian Aerospace (IAe) has started development of a 19-seat turboprop, which is set to rival the Twin Otter and Harbin Y-12F. IAe plans to fly a prototype of the N219 aircraft in 2015 following research into demand for the aircraft, which started back in 2006. IAe sees particular demand from Indonesia's remote areas where light aircraft are essential for transport. Indonesia's Lion Air has already ordered 50 of the aircraft, plus 50 options, while Nusantara Buana Air has signed for up for 30. The aircraft will include 19 three-abreast seats at a pitch of 32 inches. It will have a payload of 5,000lb. IAe plans to build 12 of the aircraft a year from its plant in Bandung. The programme already has $80m in backing.
