Lufthansa Technik (LHT) has made aircraft passenger seat maintenance quicker and easier with its newest digital application. The application, called Seat Cover Tool, is the world’s first digital assistance system for identifying seat cover part numbers, according to LHT.
Prior the app’s development, finding dirty or damaged seat covers, cushions and belts, identifying their part numbers, and ordering and replacing the components was an entirely manual process. Seat Cover Tool digitalizes identification of the correct component and partially automates the overall maintenance process.
“With Seat Cover Tool, the part numbers of seat covers that need replacing can now be identified more quickly and easily. We’ve managed to reduce the respective process time from six minutes to less than one minute,” says Stefan Mehler, project manager, LHT. “In addition, the application is very simple to use and identifies every seat cover part number reliably.”
The app, which is designed for both mobile and stationary use, is already being used for cabin maintenance work on Lufthansa’s Airbus A380 fleet. LHT plans to roll out functionality to other seat parts and all common aircraft types as early as next year. Once this version of the app has been successfully tested, LHT says it intends to offer Seat Cover Tool for free to other MRO companies.
