DFS To Use AIS Database

German air navigation service provider, DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung, is set to use the European AIS Database (EAD) to provide its aeronautical information services (AIS). DFS will continue to use its own pilot briefing system until 2015 when it reaches the end of its life cycle. In 2016, the EAD will succeed the old system. The EAD will feature further functionalities, web services and a workflow management system. "The enhanced functions offer an optimum solution for the aeronautical information services provided in our AIS Centre. We estimate cost savings of several million euros because we no longer have to operate and maintain our own system," said Pierre Hermann, head of AIM at DFS.
