GE Aviation Unveils First US Digital Centre, Collaborates With Qantas

GE Aviation has opened its latest data analytics collaboration centre in Austin, Texas with airline launch customer Qantas, where it will aim to drive the Australian carrier’s efficiencies while gaining greater operational insights.

The new centre is GE’s first in the US, adding to existing facilities in Dubai, Shanghai and Paris, where it collaborates with customers on data projects and through its Predix app.

Qantas said by entering into the collaboration project with GE, it hopes to build on fuel efficiency gains and lower emissions output across its fleet by gaining greater insight into how its aircraft operate.

Jim Daily, GE Aviation’s chief digital officer, said: “GE’s collaboration centre in Austin is home to software developers, data scientists and domain experts with specific backgrounds in analytics, flight-planning and engines, depending on what we’re working on.”

The centre employs around 100 data scientists, engineers and designers, and GE Aviation said future initiatives in Austin could lead to the creation of new jobs by the end of 2017.
